Whole Body Vibration Exercise

Whole body vibration exercise provides numerous health benefits including helping to prevent – and even reverse – osteoporosis.

Whole body triangular oscillating vibration platforms are easy to use and safe for almost everyone.

Whole body vibration exercise is one of the fastest growing modalities being used by health professionals such as chiropractors, physiotherapists and alternative medical practitioners as a therapy for:

  • Balance, flexibility and mobility improvement
  • Neuromuscular re-education
  • Strength training
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Osteoporosis
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Peripheral Neuropathy
  • Parkinson’s
  • Lower Back Pain
  • Joint Pain
  • Rehabilitation after surgery, strokes and spinal cord injury
  • Stress Incontinence

Vibration exercise technology was originally developed for the Russian Space Program to help combat muscle and bone density loss in zero gravity conditions, and was later tested by NASA. It has been adopted by Olympic and professional sports teams and athletes to assist in their training. But now you can also enjoy the results of using this amazing technology. Benefits that normally you’d only get from a vigorous 60 minute work out at a gym can be yours in only 10 minutes per day.

How It Works:

Low-speed, low amplitude vibrating platforms are changing the way many of us exercise and manage our fitness, wellness and longevity plans. Essentially, when you stand on a whole body vibration platform, the mechanical oscillations provide stimulation to the muscles causing them to contract. The muscles contract at a rate which is at a higher frequency than is possible doing conventional exercise. This both speeds up the results of the exercise as well as provides slight ‘load’ on the bone stimulating bone growth – which is why WBV technology is great as a therapy for conditions such as osteoporosis.

Whole body vibration exercise and therapy works our body from the inside out. Gentle vibrations moving into and throughout our entire body is an efficient, effective and safe way to stimulate muscles and bone cells, burn fat and lose weight, and restore neuromuscular balance. By changing position on the platform, as well as the speed, or frequency, of the oscillation, different muscle groups can be targeted. Whole body vibration exercise recruits more muscles simultaneously than regular exercise as well as creating a highly accelerated stretch reflex response (3 to 4x faster) to achieve a whole body workout with very little effort and time. Increasing muscle mass and bone density by stimulating cellular movement compliments the natural healing rejuvenative process always occurring inside our body. WBV use raises your resting metabolic rate and supports weight loss.

Whole Body Vibration is Not for Everyone

While whole body vibration is ideal for helping speed up the recovery process, it is not recommended for those with recent wounds from an operation or surgical intervention as the motion may loosen stitches. It is also not recommended for those with recently fitted IUDs, metal pins, coils, bolts, or plates. Pregnant women as well as those with Epilepsy, severe diabetes, synthetic/artificial joints, tumors, and pacemakers should avoid the body vibration as a form of exercise. If you are unsure as to whether or not vibration exercise is safe for you, check with your doctor.

Dr. Delorey Asks some important questions of interest to Wakefield residents - Chiropractor Wakefield Dr. Delorey Asks...

How come medical doctors don't recommend chiropractic?
That's changing. Years of prejudice and bias are giving way to research showing the benefits of chiropractic care. As more and more Wakefield folks seek alternatives to drugs and surgery, more and more medical practitioners are referring their patients to chiropractors.
What happens if you stop chiropractic care when you feel better?
Many Wakefield folks recognize that this predisposes you to a relapse. Chiropractors know that muscles and ligaments supporting the spine don't fully heal until after symptoms subside.
